National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) commissioner Edilberto Leonardo has resigned from his post after he was earlier cited in contempt by the House Quad Committee for allegedly lying.

“I was able to read a letter that his resignation had been accepted. I will be getting the official notice maybe by Monday,” said NAPOLCOM vice chairperson Alberto Bernardo on Friday during the continuation of the QuadComm’s hearing.

When asked if he will be facing administrative charges, Bernardo said they have to wait for future developments after Leonardo’s resignation.

“I convened the remaining commissioners and I was asking if we would be reporting to the Office of the President, through the SILG (Secretary of Interior and Local Government), that we are supposed to conduct of administrative investigation,” he said.

“I was asking my colleagues, I was outvoted that they suggested to wait for developments. But personally I would like to file administrative case.”

Leonardo was earlier ordered detained at the premises of the Batasang Pambansa Complex in Quezon City after he denied that a meeting took place ahead of the killing of three Chinese drug convicts at the Davao Prison and Penal Farm in August 2016.

The meeting supposedly took place at the Davao City Criminal Investigation and Detection Group office and attended by then-Davao Prison and Penal Farm chief Gerardo Padilla and retired police colonel Royina Garma.

But Leonardo maintained that no such meeting took place. — BAP, GMA Integrated News
