SUBIC Bay Freeport—Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) is moving forward with plans to redevelop Boton Wharf with a view to increasing the number of port users in the Subic Bay Freeport Zone.
At the recent Talakayan sa Freeport media conference here, SBMA senior deputy administrator Ronnie Yambao outlined the agency’s strategy to enhance the volume of vessel arrivals at the zone.
Yambao announced that the redevelopment project for Boton Wharf is set to begin in 2026. The plans include the construction of a new port terminal and warehouses equipped with cold storage facilities.
SBMA chairman and administrator Eduardo Jose Aliño emphasized the importance of the project.
“The Boton Wharf Redevelopment is part of the infrastructure roadmap under the Luzon Economic Corridor initiated by President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. It aims to improve port services for our stakeholders,” Aliño said.
“Our primary goal is to ensure that Subic Bay Freeport is ready to accommodate increased cargo volumes. Expanding our ports and wharves will create additional jobs and economic opportunities in and around the Freeport,” he added.
