The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) has announced its upcoming pop-up exhibit “Raiding Game: Sungka, Pangangayaw, and the Pre-colonial Philippines.”

As part of “Ai:30: Artifact in 360,” the flagship project of the commission’s Historic Sites and Education Division for the celebration of Museums and Galleries Month 2024, the pop-up exhibit will revolve around the sungka artifact and its similarities to the pangangayaw.

It will also feature an interdisciplinary approach with the inclusion of Xylology, the scientific study of the composition of wood, to examine the materials used for both the sungka and the balangay in pangangayaw.

NHCP’s “Ai:30 Artifact in 360” aims to highlight the importance of cultural and historical artifacts using more innovative and engaging formats.

The “Raiding Game: Sungka, Pangangayaw, and the Pre-colonial Philippines” pop-up exhibit will open on Oct. 18 at the NHCP Barasoain Church Historical Landmark – Museo ng Republika ng 1899 in Malolos, Bulacan.
