Operatives of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) arrested a South Korean fugitive wanted in his country over alleged involvement in the illicit drug trade.

Identified as Choi Sol, the 40-year-old foreigner was nabbed by the BI fugitive search unit (FSU) in their main office in Intramuros, Manila following a tip about his alleged presence inside the BI compound.

An Interpol red notice was issued against Choi in 2022 after he was indicted before a Korean court for violating his country’s Narcotics Control Act. An arrest warrant was reportedly issued against him by a district court in Cheongju City.

The Korean government likewise revoked his passport.

According to the BI, Choi has been allegedly conspiring with other suspects in operating a Telegram chatroom that was used to trade and advertise the sale of illegal drugs, including cocaine and hemp cartridges since 2022. It is likewise alleged the suspects amassed profit of more than 10 million won, or more than US$7,000 from their drug trading activities.

Choi is currently detained at the BI warden facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City pending deportation proceedings.—Sundy Locus/AOL, GMA Integrated News
