Filipinos who prefer to identify themselves as pro-Marcos have increased in the third quarter of the year while those who identify themselves as pro-Duterte have decreased, according to the latest survey by OCTA Research.
Based on the Tugon ng Masa (TNM) survey issued Monday, 38% of adult Filipinos identified themselves as pro-Marcos, up 2% from the second quarter survey conducted in March. Meanwhile, adult Filipinos identifying themselves as pro-Duterte were at 15%, or 1% lower from the previous survey.
“On the other hand, 26% of adult Filipinos consider themselves independent or individuals who do not identify themselves as pro-Marcos, pro-Duterte, or the opposition, a five percent decrease from the previous TNM survey conducted in the second quarter of 2024,” OCTA said.
OCTA said that while the findings indicate a nominal change at the national level for the third quarter, analyzing the data for the last three quarters of 2024 suggested a “continuing upward trend” since the first quarter to those who prefer to identify themselves as supportive of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., and a “continuing downward trend” to those supportive of former President Rodrigo Duterte.
GMA News Online has reached out to the camp of Vice President Sara Duterte, daughter of former President Rodrigo Duterte, for her comment on the latest OCTA survey, but it has yet to respond as of posting time.
Opposition
Around 7% of adult Filipinos support the opposition — up by 2% from the previous survey — while 14% were ambivalent about their political references.
The survey also showed majority or 43% of pro-Marcos Filipinos were in Balanced Luzon, with 42% in the National Capital Region (NCR), 37% were in the Visayas, and 25% in Mindanao. They were supported by Class E (40%) and classes ABCD (38%).
The Duterte family and their allies, meanwhile, remained influential in Mindanao, where 48% of population support them. Support for them in the NCR was at 6%; 3% in Balanced Luzon; and 12% in the Visayas. They were supported by Class E (22% ), Class D (15%) and Class ABC (15%).
“Support for the opposition varies by region, ranging from 4% to 14%. The highest support is in Visayas at 14%, followed by the NCR at 10%. Only 5% of the respondents from Balance Luzon and 4% from Mindanao support the opposition,” OCTA said.
“Regarding socioeconomic class, opposition support ranges from 5% to 13%, with the highest among Class ABC at 15%,” it added.
Data from the survey was gathered through face-to-face interviews of over 1,200 respondents nationwide from August 28 to September 2, 2024.
The survey had a ±3% margin of error at a 95% confidence level, and a ±6% regional margin of error at a 95% confidence level. —KBK, GMA Integrated News
