High Road Creatives, in collaboration with Japan’s 034Productions, presents a film that goes beyond entertainment to showcase the global competitiveness of Filipino cinema.

Directed by Japan-based writer-filmmaker Donie Ordiales, Crosspoint features the talents of acclaimed Filipino actor Carlo Aquino and Emmy-nominated Japanese actor Takehiro Hira, creating a dynamic on-screen presence that is both compelling and profound.

At the Asian Content & Film Market (ACFM), Crosspoint distinguished itself through its high production values and engaging storytelling. Distributors from around the globe have been impressed by the film’s quality, narrative, and overall production standards.

The plot follows Manuel Hidalgo (Aquino), a once-famous Filipino actor who relocates to Japan after his career declines, surviving by performing in Filipino pubs. His life intersects with Shigeru (Hira), a construction manager facing bankruptcy. Desperate to change their fortunes, they seize a chance when they recognize a serial killer on the news, aiming to claim the reward money. This gripping narrative, powerful performances, and thrilling action scenes will keep audiences hooked.

The film’s success at ACFM is a testament to its universal appeal. Even Filipino delegates who saw the trailer at the market were impressed with its quality. Blending action and drama, the narrative speaks to a wide audience, reflecting local nuances and global storytelling standards.

In recent years, there has been a shift towards more diverse storytelling, including crime dramas, thrillers, and series tackling social issues.

Crosspoint introduces a new genre and a fresh experience to Filipino cinema, moving away from the usual romantic comedies and dramas. This action-packed film showcases different aspects of the actors’ skills, providing a refreshing change for audiences.

Anticipation is building as Crosspoint prepares for its Philippine premiere. On October 16, audiences nationwide will experience a film already garnered international acclaim.

The special advance screening last October 10 at Gateway Mall 2 Cinema 11 was a star-studded event, with Carlo Aquino and his co-stars Kei Kurosawa, Zeppi Borromeo, and Ian de Leon in attendance.

Despite Hira Takehiro’s absence, his performance was enthusiastically received.

For Aquino, Crosspoint departs from his usual romance and drama roles. This action-packed film showcases a different aspect of his acting skills, providing a refreshing experience for his long-time fans. Aquino’s connection to the film’s themes of struggle and redemption adds depth to his portrayal of Manuel Hidalgo.

Donie Ordiales, the director, shared that the characters were inspired by real people he met in Japan.

“The film carries an important message: nothing in life is permanent. At any moment, our circumstances can change dramatically, and Crosspoint explores the profound ways in which that happens,” Ordiales said.

Audiences in the Philippines and, hopefully, other Southeast Asian territories should look forward to Crosspoint as it offers a fresh perspective. It proves that Filipino stories have a place in the global cinematic landscape, blending local flavor with international appeal. It’s a film that will inspire not just filmmakers but audiences to see Filipino cinema in a new light.

Mark your calendars for October 16 and get ready to witness a film representing Filipino films’ global competitiveness.

The world is watching, and Crosspoint is ready to take center stage.
