K-pop idol Seunghan has permanently left the Korean boy group Riize, just two days after his label, SM Entertainment, announced his comeback.

In a statement released late Sunday by Wizard Production, a label under SM Entertainment that manages Riize, it was announced that Seunghan is departing from the group after carefully considering “each and every opinion and response sent in by fans.”

“Seunghan has consistently expressed his desire to leave the group for the sake of the members and the fans. Out of respect for the artist’s decision, we are announcing Seunghan’s departure from Riize,” the statement said.

The 21-year-old singer has been on hiatus for nearly a year, following the release of a video showing him smoking and kissing a woman, which was recorded before he debuted as a member of Riize.

While some fans expressed their support for Seunghan after the announcement of his return, others—particularly more conservative fans—voiced their disappointment, even sending funeral wreaths to the label’s building.

The statement continued, “We will support Seunghan in the future so that he can showcase his talents and follow his dreams.”

Following his departure, Seunghan’s fans took to X to express their disappointment toward SM Entertainment for not protecting the artist.
