LOCAL Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla on Monday said there will be no sacred cows in the probe of police officials linked to the deadly war on illegal drugs of the previous administration.

“There are no sacred cows in the investigation. Anyone who is guilty, will be treated like any other person… they will be accorded no special treatment, and special privileges,” Remulla said in a press briefing.

He added that “everyone would face the consequence of the law and the full powers of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the institution.”

However, he said they have to wait for the final result of the congressional investigation before they could file charges against those involved in the proper court.

He added that all police officials dragged into the case would be treated innocent until proven guilty.

All the testimonies at the quad committee investigating the supposed EJKs could be considered as direct testimonies that could be used by the police in the initial investigation in filing charges, he said.

“We have to wait for the full revelations. I think with their testimonies, some of the cold cases will be opened, but again let’s wait for the final hearings and final information with quadcom,” Remulla added.

The PNP, he added, will conduct its own investigation regarding retired police colonel Royina Garma’s testimony in the congressional probe into the assassination of PCSO executive Wesley Barayuga and the supposed accomplices.

The PNP held its first command conference with Remulla on Monday, tackling potential changes in the institution.

Among the structural reforms being eyed are those involving corruption, cleansing the ranks of bad eggs, uplifting the morale of the police forces, and upholding the merit system.
