De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde should hope its first round encounter against Arellano University served as enough of a lesson as the two schools meet anew on Wednesday in the NCAA Season 100.
The Blazers take on the Chiefs at 11 a.m. to be followed by the clash between Jose Rizal University and San Sebastian College-Recoletos at 2:30 p.m. at the FilOil EcoOil Centre.
Benilde fell prey to Arellano in their previous meeting with Jeadan Ongotan and Ernest Geronimo forming a solid one-two punch against the stacked Blazers, as they took a 73-71 narrow win.
And one thing Benilde head coach Charles Tiu thinks they should focus on against an upset-hungry Arellano is to limit their turnovers. In their last clash, Benilde committed 24 turnovers against the 15 of Arellano.
The Blazers will also need to do it with the impending absence of injured guard Tony Ynot.
“Hopefully we learned from that game where we also threw the ball away a lot. They prepared for us very well defensively. Probably, without Tony Ynot again we should find a way to win again,” Tiu said.
In the second game, JRU and San Sebastian both hope to get out of slump with the Heavy Bombers coming off two straight losses while the Stags are reeling from an eight-game losing streak.
JRU got the better of San Sebastian during their first meeting last September 18 behind rookie MJ Raymundo, who exploded for a double-double of 21 points and 13 rebounds alongside two assists, three blocks, and one steal.
