THE Chinese Embassy in Manila urged Philippine authorities to intensify efforts to ensure the safety of Chinese citizens and their property in the Philippines.

The embassy made the appeal following a shooting incident on October 17, resulting in the death of a Chinese. The suspect was also another Chinese.

“Law enforcement cooperation is an important component of China-Philippines relations,” it said in a statement Sunday. “It plays an irreplaceable role in ensuring the safety of life and property of people of both countries and promoting their well-being.”

The embassy said it “immediately activated its emergency response mechanism and provided assistance to the Philippine police in the investigation.”

It also provided consular assistance and “post-incident arrangements for the family of the deceased Chinese citizen.”

“We make every effort to protect the legitimate rights and interests of our nationals staying in this country,” the embassy said.

Chinese Ambassador to Manila Huang Xilian and the deputy chief of mission and counselor in charge of consular matters recently exchanged views on China-Philippines law enforcement cooperation with Local Government Secretary Juanito Victor Remulla, Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado, and other top PNP and other law enforcement officials.

“It is our expectation that effective measures be taken to ensure the safety and legitimate rights of Chinese citizens in the Philippines and cases involving Chinese nationals be handled in a fair and just manner,” the embassy said.

The embassy said China prohibits any form of gambling.

“We welcome the Philippines’ decision to totally ban POGOs (Philippine offshore gaming operators) and crack down on POGOs still in operation and their relevant criminal activities,” it said.

It noted that since July 2025, about 140 Chinese associated with POGOs have been repatriated to China.
