MANILA, Philippines — A majority of Filipinos support the proposal to amend the 1987 Constitution to introduce economic reforms, a survey conducted by Tangere showed.

The survey, conducted from October 14-16, 2024, showed that 61.9 percent of Filipinos support the proposed amendments to the Constitution.

This represents a significant increase in support compared to the previous month. The survey highlighted varying levels of support across different regions and demographics, indicating a growing optimism among the populace regarding potential economic benefits.

The highest levels of backing were observed in Northern Luzon and Central Luzon, while support was comparatively lower in Mindanao and the National Capital Region (NCR). Demographically, younger respondents ages 26 to 45 gave the strongest support for the proposed changes.

The respondents said they expect the proposed economic reforms will create additional employment opportunities, lower the cost of goods and services, boost economic growth and higher wages.

While optimism prevailed, the survey also highlighted several concerns that the government must address to ensure balanced economic growth such as corruption and increased competition with the entry of foreign entities.

The survey was administered through a mobile-based application, involving a sample size of 1,500 participants with a margin of error of +/- 2.50 percent at a 95 percent confidence level.

The respondents were selected using a stratified random sampling method, ensuring representation from various regions of the Philippines: 12 percent from National Capital Region, 23 percent from Northern Luzon, 22 percent from Southern Luzon, 20 percent from Visayas, and 23 percent from Mindanao.
