More than 80 vehicles were towed and impounded by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) so far as the agency stepped up its road clearing operations in preparation for Undas.
The MMDA is ensuring that roads leading to cemeteries are clear and have no obstruction as All Saints’ Day nears, according to a report by Ivan Mayrina on Unang Balita on Tuesday.
On C3 Road corner A. Bonifacio Avenue in Quezon City — the major roads leading to Manila North Cemetery, the biggest cemetery in Metro Manila — no obstructions were seen on Tuesday morning.
The clearing operations will continue until just before All Saints’ Day.
MMDA Traffic Enforcement Group director Atty. Victor Nuñez said the agency’s Special Operations Group began clearing operations in the area starting Monday.
“Nagsimula sila diyan sa area na ‘yan sa may North Cemetery at Chinese Cemetery kung saan nakapag-impound sila ng 15 na mga sasakyan na naka-ilegal na naka-park,” he said in an interview on Unang Balita.
(They started in that area near North Cemetery and Chinese Cemetery where they impounded 15 vehicles that were illegally parked.)
“At may total apprehensions na 106 na natiketan,” he added.
(Total apprehensions reached 106 for which violation tickets were issued.)
Nuñez said the MMDA is conducting clearing operations as well on Aurora Boulevard and Rizal Avenue in Manila, parts of Caloocan City, and in near St. John Memorial Park in San Juan City.
“Pati na rin mga malalaking major terminal sa Pasay, Manila, EDSA Cubao, Caloocan at sa may PITX kasama sa programa naming iki-clear simula ngayong linggo,” he said.
(Also included in our program to clear this week are the areas near big major terminals in Pasay, Manila, EDSA Cubao, Caloocan, and near PITX.)
Nuñez also said MMDA has asked local government units to submit their traffic management plans and road closure advisories for Undas 2024 so they can share these on their social media accounts.
Meanwhile, he appealed to motorists to do their part in making roads clear and without obstruction for Undas 2024.
(We are continuing to appeal to our countrymen especially those residing near big public cemeteries and major terminals, especially now that All Saints’ Day is approaching. We have started our clearing operations yesterday. We hope they will park their vehicles in the right parking spots and avoid leaving them on roads. Our operations are continuing, led by our Special Operations Group. So we hope they will be disciplined in parking their vehicles.) —KG, GMA Integrated News
