MANILA, Philippines — Signal No.2 has been raised over Catanduanes while Metro Manila is under Signal No.1 as Tropical Storm “Kristine” continues to dump from intense to torrential rains, the state-run weather agency said on Tuesday.
Signal No. 1 is also up over Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Apayao, Kalinga, Abra, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Benguet, Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Aurora, Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, Zambales, Bataan, Pampanga, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon including Pollilo Islands, Masbate including Ticao Island, Burias Island, Marinduque, Romblon, and, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Albay and Sorsogon in Luzon.
The same storm signal remains hoisted over Eastern Samar, Northern Samar, Samar, Leyte, Biliran and Southern Leyte in Visayas and also over Dinagat Islands and Surigao del Norte including Siargao – Bucas Grande Group in Mindanao, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said in its 11 a.m. bulletin.
The weather agency said Kristine was last spotted some 335 kilometers east of Virac, Catanduanes while moving west-northwestward at 10 kilometers per hour (kph) with maximum sustained winds of 65kph near the center and gustiness of up to 80kph, it added.
According to the same bulletin, the tropical storm will continue to dump intense to torrential rains with a volume measured at 200 millimeters over many areas in Bicol Region and Northern Samar until Wednesday afternoon.
The state weather bureau said the highest wind signal that would likely be hoisted would be Signal No. 3, down from its previous forecast of Signal No. 4.
Kristine will likely intensity into a severe tropical storm prior to its landfall either in Isabela or Aurora by Wednesday evening or early Thursday morning.
