Residents of Samar and Maguindanao del Sur endured floods caused by the downpour on Wednesday brought by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine, according to GMA Regional TV’s Fe Marie Dumaboc.
One of the areas affected by the tropical cyclone is Mapanas, Northern Samar wherein Magtaon Elementary School was severely damaged due to the chest-high flood.
After the water subsided, the flood left the school covered in mud which also damaged the books and other school materials.
Meanwhile, the roads in Barangay Bugko in Mondragon, Northern Samar were not passable since Tuesday.
Some roads in Margarita, Samar suddenly turned into creeks due to the floods.
Several houses in Jipapad, Eastern Samar are also submerged in floodwater.
Eastern Samar, Northern Samar, and Samar are currently under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1.
Further, Maguindanao del Sur’s provincial disaster risk reduction and management council, 59 of the barangays in eight towns were affected by the flooding.
Rice fields in Mamasapano are also engulfed in flood.
The national highway in Ampatuan also became river-like due to the rains.
The PDRRMO is currently conducting a rescue operation in Datu Hoffer Ampatuan as some residents are trapped in their houses.—Vince Ferreras/LDF, GMA Integrated News
