The romantic-comedy movie starring Francine Diaz and Seth Fedelin, My Future You, is officially included in the upcoming 50th Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF). The film is the first to be announced among the five completed films chosen for the much-awaited festival.
This movie also marks the return of Regal Films to the MMFF, with their last entry being The Missing in 2020. The movie’s producer, Roselle Monteverde, expressed her joy over Regal Films’ return to the festival.
“We’re very happy because this film is for Christmas. It’s a family movie, a beautiful film prepared for the holiday season,” Roselle when we chanced upon her right after the official announcement.
“I rushed here immediately when I heard that we made the cut. I’m happy that this is the one that was picked,” the Regal producer told Manila Standard Entertainment. “Christmas is really for the family, and this movie is a family film.”
When asked about the release of Untold, another movie from Regal, she smiled and said, “We’ll see.”
Initially, the plan was to release the FranSeth movie next year if it wasn’t selected for the 50th MMFF, but due to its quality, it became one of the lucky films chosen. FranSeth fans are overjoyed that they’ll get to watch My Future You during the Christmas season.
Meanwhile, among the final five films are Uninvited, featuring Vilma Santos, Aga Muhlach, and Nadine Lustre; the action film Topakk, starring Arjo Atayde, Julia Montes, and Sid Lucero; and the romantic movie Hold Me Close, featuring Julia Barretto and Carlo Aquino, which was filmed in Japan. The final announcement was the comeback film of Judy Ann Santos and Lorna Tolentino, Espantaho.
New trophy to celebrate MMFF’s golden year
The MMFF also unveiled a special trophy to mark its 50th year, alongside the announcement of the final five films completing this year’s lineup.
The trophy, designed by Filipino-American artist Jefre Manuel Figueras, known as Jefre, features a silver statuette with a film reel on its upper torso and film strips draped over its body.
Jefre was announced as the trophy’s designer in July. He shared news of the unveiling on his Instagram Stories.
Jefre is recognized for creating notable sculptures such as the 12-meter “Time” in front of SM Megamall, visible to MRT passengers, as well as “Bayani” in Pasay and “The Victor” in Pasig.
