AT least 4,102 individuals, or 1,022 families, in Quezon City, are staying in 20 evacuation centers as of Thursday amid bad weather caused by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine (International name: Trami).

QC Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council spokesman Peachy de Leon said the city government evacuated residents from high-risk areas since Wednesday.

“We serve hot meals in evacuation centers and also provide relief goods. The City Health (Department) is on the ground to monitor the evacuees para walang magkasakit (so that no one gets sick),” she said.

Based on data from the Emergency Operation Center, District 4 has the most number of evacuees at 537 families or 2,211 individuals, followed by District 1 with 417 families spread throughout its 11 evacuation centers, District 2 with 72 families or 267 individuals, and District 6 with 65 individuals or 18 families.

Meanwhile, the QC Health Department distributed vitamins, supplements, and other medicines to residents in evacuation centers.

Residents who were forced to wade in floods were given free doxycycline to prevent the risk of being infected with leptospirosis.

De Leon reminded residents to stay vigilant.

“For emergency, call 122 or message QC Facebook page, and monitor weather updates and sundin po ang sasabihin ng barangay (follow instructions from your barangay),” she said.
