PHILIPPINE tropical fabrics — abaca, bandala, piña, banana, kawayarn and other textiles — were showcased in a 100-piece collection designed by the Davao Fashion and Design Council Foundation Inc. (DFDCFI) during The Stellar Fashion Gala.

This fundraising charity event done for the benefit of b.LOOM Project’s weaving communities intended to realign the Davao artisanal weaving brand to the country’s fashion niche along the lines of design identity and regenerative sustainability. It also launched the b.LOOM Project, DFDCFI’s initiative showcasing Davao’s expertise in fashion beyond the loom.

Held at the Discovery Samal in Davao, the Luxe Resort collection featured designers Aztec Barba, Dodjie Batu, Emi Englis, Popoy Barba, Edgar Buyan, Egay Ayag, Windel Mira and Benjie Panizales.

The event’s proceeds went to the b.LOOM Project’s Sustainable Enterprise Program on Indigenous and Emerging Artisanal Textile Weaving among Davao Region’s Extra-Mile Creative Communities. The Mindanao Trade Expo Foundation Inc. ensured that deserving communities were identified and the donation was adequately distributed. Another partner was the Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Textile Research Institute.
