THE Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC), an attached agency of the Department of Information and Communications Technology, has formally partnered with a private financial firm to ensure a safe and secured lending and borrowing environment for 12 million consumers and 170 lending agencies, especially in times of disasters.

The signing of a memorandum of agreement between the CICC and the Consumer Lending Association of the Philippines (CLAP) “will allow the protection of online consumers,” CICC Executive Director Alexander Ramos said, adding that the partnership will help sustain the industry’s growth.

Ramos noted victims of natural disasters, such as Severe Tropical Storm Kristine, would be needing emergency funds, which are usually addressed by online lending companies.

“We do not want these survivors of disasters to face another disaster by being trapped by unscrupulous online lending companies,” he pointed out.

CLAP President Francisco Roberto Mauricio said they will work closely with CICC and other government agencies, “not just for awareness building, but we will do our best as a private sector to cooperate with the government, to help prevent and eradicate crimes against security done on digital platforms. So, we’re very happy to be here.”
