The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) said Sunday it has restored power service to “most” of the customers affected by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine.

According to Meralco, as of 7:00 a.m. Sunday, customers affected by service interruptions are down to around 6,000. The majority of the remaining storm-hit areas are in parts of Cavite and Laguna.

“We thank our customers for their patience and understanding. Our crews and personnel will not stop until power service has been restored to the remaining affected customers, as we target full restoration within the day,” Meralco Vice President and Head of Corporate Communications Joe R. Zaldarriaga said in a statement.

Last Thursday, Meralco said “around 535,000 customers are affected by service interruptions.”

Zaldarriaga added that Meralco remains on alert with the entry of Tropical Storm Leon.

“We continue to closely monitor the weather situation and we assure our customers that our crews and personnel are ready to respond 24/7,” he said.

The company’s One Meralco Foundation, the social development arm of the distribution utility, distributed relief packs and solar lamps in areas severely affected by Kristine.

To report power outages and other concerns, customers are advised to reach out through Meralco’s official social media pages on Facebook (www.facebook.com/meralco) and X (formerly Twitter, @meralco). They may also text their concerns to 0920- 9716211 and 0917-5516211 or contact the Meralco Hotline at 16211 and 8631-1111. —RF, GMA Integrated News
