BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — Another elevated sulfur dioxide emission was recorded at Kanlaon Volcano in Negros on Monday, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.
Phivolcs said the emission was the fifth highest since state volcanologists conducted instrumental gas monitoring on the volcano.
The gas produced a stench that hit several barangays in Canlaon City in Negros Oriental.
Mari-Andylene Quintia, Phivolcs resident volcanologist, said no threat of lahar flows has been monitored despite heavy rains over the area in the past few days.
