THE Maritime Industry Authority (Marina) partnered with the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) to review major shipyards in Cebu and Subic, focusing on enhancing the competitiveness of the shipbuilding and repair industry.
From Oct. 24 to 25, 2024, Marina and the OECD Shipbuilding Committee (OECD-SBC) officials visited Tsuneishi Heavy Industries and Austal Philippines in Cebu.
Marina Deputy Administrator for Operations Nannette Villamor-Dinopol joined OECD Shipbuilding unit head Laurent Daniel and Marina officials Ramon Hernandez and Nikko Ariel Non in visiting these shipyard facilities.

In Subic, the team was led by OECD junior policy analyst Emilie Berger, Shipyard Development and Licensing Division chief Maria Teresa Mamisao, and senior shipping operations specialist Jeremiah Perez inspected Seatrium and Subic Drydock.
Stakeholder forums were held in Cebu and Subic, involving government agencies and private maritime stakeholders. The discussions focused on industry challenges and sharing insights to align practices with global standards.
The OECD team also visited smaller Class C shipyards to understand their contributions to the local industry and its overall capabilities in shipbuilding activities.
