Wopsy Zamora, one of my favorite and long-time friends, chief executive officer of Amigo Entertainment Technologies, Inc., recently celebrated his 80th birthday, and it was truly a grand celebration. The milestone event took place in the Okada ballroom — a venue he helped illuminate with his work. His influence extends across Okada’s Cove Manila, Crystal Corridor, and their 2024 Christmas Village, making the choice of location especially meaningful.
The ballroom was transformed into a dazzling silver paradise of lights, a tribute to Zamora’s iconic beginnings in the disco era. At the end of a tunnel, giant disco balls glistened from the ceiling, complemented by cascading chandeliers that perfectly enhanced the ambiance.
Wopsy’s close friends, Ateneo classmates, and business associates — spanning different eras of his accomplished life — came together to celebrate. Among the many industry giants in attendance were SM’s Hans and Herbert Sy, both longtime clients and friends, along with Mayor Chavit Singson, who is running for senator in the upcoming elections. Other notable guests included Oscar Violago, Dick Gordon, Gary Teves, and many more. In total, 320 guests, all near and dear to him, attended the event as per the celebrant’s wishes.
The evening featured live performances by RJ Jacinto, Richard Merk, and Salvador Panelo, along with a sumptuous feast. Toward the end of the dinner, Wopsy gave a heartfelt speech, reflecting on a life rich with accomplishments and milestones. The celebration was a fitting tribute: a venue tied to one of his largest clients, a stunning lights-and-sound experience, disco-inspired décor and music, and cherished clients-turned-lifelong friends — all surrounded by his now-larger family.
