The remains of over 4,000 persons buried in Humay-Humay Catholic Cemetery in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu are set for exhumation and transfer on November 4, 2024 to give way to the construction on the area of apartment-style tombs.
The said cemetery is deemed the biggest in Lapu-Lapu City in terms of the number of persons buried at over 7,000. But there are not as many apartment-style tombs at Humay-Humay Catholic Cemetery. Most of the tombs are erected in the traditional stand-alone structures, according to Jessie Molejon who manages the said cemetery.
Molejon said that the area has started to become crowded. To be able to accommodate further interment service, they have to maximize the space by erecting apartment-style tombs.
On the observance of All Souls Day on November 2, 2024, the cemetery management put up a tarpaulin that lists the names of faithful departed buried in the area within the last three years to notify their families on the process of exhumation and transfer. —GMA Regional TV News
