Kanlaon Volcano on Negros Island had 14 volcanic earthquakes on Saturday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said on Sunday.
The volcano also had six ashing events, PHIVOLCS said in its bulletin.
An average of 4,171 tons of sulfur dioxide was emitted by the volcano on Saturday.
Voluminous plumes rising up to 700 meters tall were also observed. These drifted in the southwest and south directions.
The volcano edifice remains inflated, PHIVOLCS said.
Alert Level 2 (Increased Unrest) remains in effect at Kanlaon Volcano.
PHIVOLCS reminded the public that entry into the four-kilometer radius Permanent Danger Zone is not allowed.
Likewise, flying aircraft close to the volcano is prhibited.
PHIVOLCS said Kanlaon Volcano may have sudden steam-driven or phreatic eruptions.
Kanlaon Volcano, which straddles the provinces of Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental, erupted last June 3, emitting 5,000-meter tall plumes. —KG, GMA Integrated News
