GOCC subsidies down in Sept. from a year ago

SUBSIDIES to government-owned and -controlled corporations (GOCCs) totaled P18.22 billion in September, more than double compared to the P9.1 billion in August, but down by 14.3 percent from P21.26 billion in the same period last year, according to data from the Bureau of the Treasury.

Total subsidies from January-September were at P105.24 billion, 23.3 percent lower than the P137.13 billion in the same period last year.

Fundings to government financial institutions (GFIs) in September totaled P642 million, up from zero last year, but remarkably lower than August’s P1.98 billion.

As of end-September, GFIs received P5.43 billion, a big surge from P486 million in the same period last year.

Appropriations to major nonfinancial state firms increased to P6.91 billion from P6.03 billion in August but remarkably lower than the P16.64 billion a year earlier.

Disbursements to other state-owned firms, meanwhile, climbed to P10.66 billion from P4.63 billion a year earlier and P1.08 billion in August. On the other hand, allocations from January to September plunged to P33.47 billion from last year’s P78.26 billion.

The Philippine Health Insurance Corp. took the lion’s share of September subsidies at P9.44 billion from zero last year.

The National Irrigation Administration followed with P5.5 billion, up from P2.97 billion last year. Third was the National Electrification Administration with P1.01 billion, down from P1.37 billion.

Rounding up the top five were the Philippine Crop Insurance Corp., P353 million, down from P2.7 billion last year; and the Philippine Heart Center, P348 million, up from P178 million.
