The observance of Undas or All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day over the weekend has been generally peaceful despite some reported incidents, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said on Monday.
“Naging generally peaceful naman po yung observance ng Undas natin mula po noong tayo ay nag-deploy ng as early as October 30 hanggang kahapon po, long weekend. Naging maayos naman po pangkalahatan,” PNP spokesperson Police Brigadier General Jean Fajardo said at a press briefing
(The observance of our Undas has been generally peaceful since we deployed personnel as early as October 30 until yesterday, long weekend. It went well overall.)
However, Fajardo said a fire incident was reported in Bagbag Cemetery in Quezon City and a visitor brought a toy gun to Manila North Cemetery during the occasion.
“Wala naman tayong report na any significant incident except yung sunog sa may Bagbag Cemetery na nakaapekto po ng more than 20 houses at yung kaso po ng isang lalaki na nahuli po dito sa NCRPO na may dalang toy gun,” she said.
(We don’t have a report of any significant incident except from the fire in Bagbag Cemetery that affected more than 20 houses and the case of a man who was caught here by the NCRPO with a toy gun.)
“Other than that, wala tayong naitala na anumang kaguluhan (we have not recorded any disturbance),” she added.
On Monday morning, travelers trooped to bus terminals, seaports, and airports in different parts of the country as people returned for work after the Undas break.
Malacañang earlier declared November 1 (All Saints’ Day) and November 2 (All Souls’ Day) as special non-working days to allow Filipinos to spend time to honor their departed loved ones. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
