Due to the strong impact, the three vehicles in front of the van were also damaged, including a tanker and two sedans.
An initial police investigation showed that the 16-wheeler tried to overtake the minivan but failed to apply the brakes.
Capt. Jenibeth Artista, Makati police spokesman, said the truck driver failed to hit the brakes and swerved right where he hit the other cars.
