Philippine senators are optimistic about the prospects for stronger and more dynamic relations between the country and the United States under Donald Trump’s administration.
“The election of Donald Trump with a clear and commanding mandate should bring healing and stability to the United States, which, in recent years, has been polarized by diverging opinions over politics and the economy,” Senate Majority Leader Francis Tolentino remarked.
He also congratulated the citizens of the United States for the orderly and successful exercise of their democratic rights in the historic US Presidential Elections that will see the return of Republican candidate Donald Trump to Washington.
“Trump’s focus on revitalizing the American economy should extend to greater stability in global affairs, which should augur well for the Philippines. Ultimately, what I hope to see under ‘Trump 2.0’ is the opening of a stronger and more dynamic chapter in the enduring relations between the US and the Philippines,” he added.
Tolentino was among those recently invited by the US Embassy to join a watch party for the US Presidential Elections in Makati.
Senator Jinggoy Estrada expressed hope that the Philippines will continue to be a significant ally of the United States under Trump’s administration.
“The Philippines has established a longstanding strategic alliance with the United States, which has significantly contributed to maintaining peace and security in the Asia-Pacific region. I hope we will maintain this valuable partnership and that military cooperation between the two countries will remain strong, particularly in addressing emerging security challenges,” he stated.
Senator Robinhood Padilla supported Estrada’s sentiments, saying, “I hope that the Philippines, our Motherland, will benefit from Mr. Trump’s leadership in the coming years.”
“I also laud the peaceful process of selecting leaders in the United States. It is good to witness this practice of real power—the power of the people, their vote, and their choice. The only time a common man is more powerful than a politician,” he added.
Senate President Francis Escudero noted that relations between the Philippines and the US were fairly strong during Trump’s previous presidency.
“I am hopeful that his assumption would bode well for our country,” he said.
