THE latest network performance report for the Philippines highlights major mobile and fixed network providers and reveals key trends in connectivity improvements across the country.
The report, covering January to June 2024, draws on extensive data from millions of daily Speedtest assessments and Quality of Experience (QoE) metrics, offering a comprehensive view of mobile and fixed network performance.
Mobile network performance
Smart Communications emerged as the fastest mobile provider, achieving a median download speed of 40.75 Mbps across all technologies, leading in mobile speed and video experience.
Globe led in consistency, with 85.5 percent of its network samples meeting the minimum thresholds of 5 Mbps download and 1 Mbps upload.
Median Mobile Download Speed for the Philippines across all providers was 31.83 Mbps, up from 27.64 Mbps in the second half of 2023, reflecting the country’s increasing mobile network performance.
Fixed ISP performance
Converge stood out as the leading fixed ISP in the Philippines with a Speed Score of 147.77 and median download and upload speeds of 108.53 Mbps and 105.32 Mbps, respectively.
Converge also recorded the highest consistency in the fixed ISP category, with 87.5 percent of samples meeting or exceeding 25 Mbps download and 3 Mbps upload speeds. It topped both video and gaming performance metrics in the fixed market.
City-wise network performance
Quezon City recorded the fastest median mobile download speed at 55.02 Mbps, followed by Manila and Caloocan.
Caloocan led for fixed network performance with a median download speed of 99.46 Mbps.
Davao City had the slowest mobile speeds among major cities, with a median download speed of 40.88 Mbps, followed by Cebu City.
Market, infrastructure developments
As one of Southeast Asia’s fastest-growing economies, the Philippines has seen growing demands for high-speed connectivity. In response, both the government and major service providers have made substantial investments to upgrade and expand digital infrastructure, positively impacting both mobile and fixed network speeds.
Fastest mobile network
Ookla’s Speed Score metric, which combines download and upload performance (while focusing on modern chipsets), ranked Smart as the fastest mobile network in the Philippines with a Speed Score of 69.52. Smart’s median upload speed was 7.54 Mbps, with a latency of 47ms, positioning it as the top provider ahead of Globe and DITO.
This report underlines the progress made in connectivity across the Philippines, with network improvements paving the way for better experiences in video, gaming, and overall QoE for end-users across the archipelago.
