The local government of Naga City has imposed a curfew effective noon Saturday, Nov. 16, for the protection of residents as Super Typhoon Pepito continued to move closer to Bicol.
In a memorandum order issued Saturday, the office of Naga City Mayor Nelson Legacion said the “General Curfew” shall be imposed “in the interest of public safety as Typhoon Pepito approaches.”
The order remains in effect until further notice. It was issued upon the recommendation of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC).
The following measures shall be enforced during the curfew period:
- Residents are required to remain inside their homes or evacuation centers
- Private establishments are directed to suspend operations
- Operation of all vehicles, except those used for emergency response and essential services, is strictly prohibited.
Responding personnel from incident management teams, the CDRRMC, and barangay DRRMCs are excluded from the curfew.
As of posting time, Signal No. 4 was raised over Catanduanes and part of northeastern Camarines Sur due to the effects of Super Typhoon Pepito, weather bureau PAGASA said.
Signal No. 3 was hoisted over Naga City.
The same was in effect over multiple towns and cities in Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Albay, Sorsogon, and Northern and Eastern Samar.
Based on the track forecast, PAGASA said Pepito is more likely to make landfall in the vicinity of Catanduanes on Saturday night, Nov. 16, or Sunday early morning, Nov. 17.
However, the agency has not ruled out landfall scenarios over the eastern coast of Camarines Sur or Albay during the same time frame, or along the eastern coast of Quezon or Aurora on Sunday afternoon or evening. — VDV, GMA Integrated News
