MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Wednesday expressed hope for a “comprehensive, just and lasting peace” as Ukraine’s war with Russia reached its 1,000th day.

In a statement posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Marcos tagged Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and reiterated his administration’s support to its “valued partner.”

“Yesterday marked the 1,000th day since the war in Ukraine began. In my meeting with President @ZelenskyyUa on June 3rd, I reiterated the PH’s unwavering support for Ukraine’s sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity,” he said.

“It is our hope that we will see comprehensive, just and lasting peace in Ukraine. Ukraine is our valued partner, and our relations continue to go from strength to strength,” he added.

The President last June met with Zelenskyy in Malacañang where both leaders vowed to further strengthen the 32-year-old diplomatic ties between the two nations.

The Philippines, through Marcos, echoed calls made by the international community for Russia and Ukraine to settle their conflict through diplomacy.

Ukraine served as a second home to nearly 200 Filipinos. But the figure went down to 25, who are mostly married to Ukrainians, due to the ongoing Ukraine-Russia crisis.
