DEPARTMENT of Migrant Workers (DMW) Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac assured the family of Mary Jane Veloso that she would be home by Christmas.

Cacdac visited the Veloso family in General Natividad, Nueva Ecija, on Saturday. He and General Natividad municipal administrator Dr. Emanuel San Juan were received by Veloso’s parents, Cesar and Celia.

Veloso’s parents also thanked President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for announcing her return.

“We are here to provide all the welfare assistance that the government can offer to Mary Jane’s family as directed by the President,” Cacdac said after the visit.

He said he will provide psychosocial counseling for Veloso’s oldest son, Daniel, as well as skills training through the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda), and “allowances” that will help him focus on his studies.

Tesda training vouchers were also given by the DMW to the Veloso family, along with financial aid and a grocery package.

Cacdac said the DMW will continue to work closely with the family, making sure that they would have access to the government’s programs that include medical assistance and other support programs “that can improve their welfare and future prospects.”

He also spoke with Veloso’s sister, who is also an OFW in Saudi Arabia, who shared concerns regarding her own employer and intends to return to the country.

He promised Veloso’s mother to refer her medical concerns to the Department of Health (DoH).

“This visit is a testament to our ongoing commitment to the welfare of our overseas workers and their families. We will not leave them behind, and we will continue to extend support to Nanay Celia and her family, especially in helping them secure a better future for her grandchildren,” he said.

Veloso is set to return to the country after 14 years of imprisonment in Indonesia.
