The NCAA has decided to call off the battle for third place game between San Beda University and Lyceum of the Philippines University originally scheduled for December 7.
In a memorandum dated Tuesday, November 26, management committee chairman Hercules Callanta said the league will no longer push through with the third place match, listing a number of logistical issues.
The league had previously scheduled the game for 10:30 a.m. of December 7, before Game 2 of the NCAA Finals, which will be disputed by Mapua University and De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde, at 2:30 p.m. But there were issues with venue availability for the planned schedule.
He added that the NCAA considered holding the third place clash before Game 1 on the Finals on December 1 instead.
However, they believed the shift to an earlier date would force the schools “to rush calling back teams from breaks and rushing to prepare for the earlier schedule, which may cause the unavailability of some players, or worse, injuries.”
The league ultimately decided to cancel the game altogether.
The NCAA Finals series, meanwhile, will push through as scheduled.
Mapua and Benilde will open their best-of-three affair on Sunday, December 1, still at the Araneta Coliseum with both squads eyeing to end years-long title droughts for their respective schools.
