President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ordered the reorganization of the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM) to strengthen the country’s export promotion.

The CITEM is a government-owned and -controlled corporation of the Department of Trade of Industry.

Signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, Executive Order (EO) 75 stated that the CITEM will be governed by the CITEM Governing Board (CITEM Board) composed of the following:

DTI Secretary as Chairperson
Department of Agriculture Secretary
Department of Foreign Affairs Secretary
Department of the Interior and Local Government Secretary
Department of Science and Technology Secretary
Department of Tourism Secretary
Government Service Insurance System President and General Manager
A representative of the Office of the President
A representative of the private sector to be appointed by the President

They are tasked to conduct regular meetings once every quarter.

“There is a need to revisit and strengthen the organizational structure of CITEM to ensure an integrated approach in export marketing towards attaining the objective of reinforcing the country’s posture as a leading producer of quality export products and services,” the EO read.

The CITEM Board’s vice chairperson and executive director will be elected from among its ranks.

They should be a Filipino citizen and have obtained a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in business, marketing, promotions, public administration, or any related field.

The CITEM will continue to conduct domestic and international trade fairs, selling missions, in-store promotions, and other similar activities aimed at promoting Philippine products and services to the global market.

It should also implement industry development programs for export products and services and generate consumer-level awareness and demand for Philippine products globally.

In coordination with the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) and other related agencies, the CITEM will come up with a roadmap that will expound the strategic plans and programs to further improve its mandate.

It will also issue guidelines for the effective implementation of the EO, which include the duties and functions of member agencies of the CITEM Board and Executive Director and the rules for the conduct of meetings of the CITEM Board.—Mariel Celine Serquiña/LDF, GMA Integrated News
