A memorandum of understanding to bolster cultural relations between the Philippines and the United Arab Emirates was signed during the visit of President Ferdinand ”Bongbong” Marcos Jr. to the Middle Eastern country.
First Lady Louise ”Liza” Araneta-Marcos witnessed the signing of the PH-UAE Memorandum of Understanding on Culture.
According to Mrs. Marcos, the partnership between the National Commission for Culture and the Arts and the Ministry of Culture of the United Arab Emirates on Cooperation in the Culture Sector highlights the shared dedication to preserving and celebrating cultural heritage.
”I’m truly thankful for the UAE’s support — whether it’s for restoring historic treasures like Intramuros or showcasing Filipino artistry in Abu Dhabi through cultural exchanges. This collaboration ensures that our rich heritage will continue to shine on the global stage,” the First Lady said.
”Proud to witness such an inspiring moment for our culture and our people!” she added.
Mrs. Marcos also mentioned her exchange of ideas with His Excellency Sheikh Salem bin Khalid Al Qassimi, the country’s Minister of Culture, about their shared passion for preserving cultural heritage and supporting the arts.
She said the UAE’s commitment to celebrate heritage and diversity aligns with the vision for a ”Bagong Pilipinas, where arts and culture take the center stage as key elements of national identity.”
”Grateful for this opportunity to strengthen the cultural bond between our two countries!” Mrs. Marcos said.
According to the First Lady, she also had a meaningful meeting with Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum in which they bonded over their mutual love for culture and the arts.
”Hearing about her incredible efforts to preserve heritage and uplift women through creativity was so inspiring. It reminded me why celebrating Filipino culture has always been so important —because art and heritage have an amazing way of bringing people together, no matter where we’re from,” Mrs. Marcos said. —KBK, GMA Integrated News
