AS the maritime industry navigates rapid globalization and technological advancements, digital technologies are emerging as a powerful tool to revolutionize operations and ensure the well-being of seafarers.
Raal Harris, chief creative officer (CCO) at Ocean Technologies Group (OTG), believes OTG is on that path and spoke about OTG leveraging digital technologies to revolutionize the maritime industry.
Harris identified two key areas where OTG is making a difference: human capital management and operational efficiency.

Harris said, “OTG’s solutions include the Ocean Learning Platform for training and competency management and the Compas crew platform for managing crew information, changes, payroll and travel.”
With the Ocean Learning Platform app, learners can work through their training on the move, even without internet connectivity. Learners can download their training on a regular internet connection, allowing them to complete it whenever and wherever is most convenient. The app gives crew teams more control to complete their training faster, in their own time and with fewer obstacles.
These solutions empower the workforce with the tools and training they need to succeed.
On Operational Solutions, Harris pointed out that OTG offers digital tools for fleet management, including digital planned maintenance systems, procurement tools, Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality (HSQE) management systems, and regulatory intelligence tools.
These solutions automate tasks, improve accessibility of information and provide valuable insights into business operations.
Harris also emphasized OTG’s collaborative approach, highlighting the importance of customer input. “We listen to what they’re trying to achieve, understanding those user stories and then finding technological solutions or content solutions as well that can then sort of, you know, try and solve that problem for them,” he explained. OTG leverages customer expertise to develop solutions that meet specific needs across the diverse maritime industry.
Global reach and diverse customer base
OTG caters to a global audience across various shipping sectors. “There’s a big difference between what’s the concerns of a cruise operator compared to a bulk carrier operator,” Harris said.
OTG’s solutions are adaptable to the specific needs of cruise operators, bulk carriers, tanker operators and ship management companies, regardless of fleet size.
Its commitment to collaboration and innovation positions them as a leader in maritime digitalization. Their focus on human capital development and operational efficiency is transforming the way the industry operates.
