MANILA, Philippines — Speaker Martin Romualdez yesterday lauded Malacañang’s creation of a panel to fast-track the rehabilitation of Marawi in Lanao del Sur.

Earlier, President Marcos created the Office of the Presidential Adviser for Marawi Rehabilitation and Development (OPAMRD) through Executive Order 78.

Romualdez highlighted measures taken by the House to speed up the rehabilitation of Marawi, which was destroyed following a siege by the Maute terrorist group in 2017.

He cited the annual allocation of at least P1 billion intended for reconstruction programs and projects in Marawi.

“President Marcos’ efforts reflect the administration’s commitment to addressing issues that delayed the full recovery of Marawi and its surrounding communities,” Romualdez said.

He said the creation of the OPAMRD “is a significant step to ensuring that recovery and rehabilitation efforts for Marawi are not only sustained but streamlined and accelerated.”

“It showed Marcos’ sincerity to fulfill his promise to the people of Marawi and the entire Bangsamoro region,” Romualdez said.
