PhilHealth to ease filing of claims by typhoon victims

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) announced that filing of claims by those affected by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine in the Bicol Region will be given consideration.

In its PhilHealth Advisory 2024-0057, the state health insurer said it is giving special privileges on the filing of claims to those who were severely affected by Kristine in Region 5.

“Pursuant to PhilHealth Circular 2020-0007 regarding the ‘Guidelines of the Provision of Special Privileges’ to those affected by a fortuitous event, PhilHealth shall grant special privilege on the filing of claims to accredited health facilities covered by PhilHealth Regional Office 5 that have been adversely affected by typhoon Kristine on Oct. 23,” the advisory read.

PhilHealth said “claims with discharges starting Aug. 24 and onwards which cover the 60 days filing period on the actual occurrence of the event which was Oct. 23 and until Nov. 30 shall be accorded with 120 days filing period from the date of discharge until otherwise rescinded.”

It advised other regions not covered by this issuance to submit a request to the Office of the President and the PhilHealth CEO for approval, subject to the guidelines of PhilHealth’s circular provided there is an official declaration of calamity.
