Pope Francis has designated Most Reverend Prudencio Andaya as the new bishop of the Diocese of Cabanatuan.
According to the diocese, Andaya, currently serving as Apostolic Vicar of Tabuk, will replace Most Reverend Sofronio Bancud whose resignation was accepted by the Vatican on December 8, his 76th birthday.
“The Holy Father, Pope Francis, has graciously appointed His Excellency, the Most Reverend Prudencio P. Andaya, CICM, currently serving as Apostolic Vicar of Tabuk, as the new Bishop of Cabanatuan,” the diocese said on Facebook.
“This joyful news was officially announced yesterday, Sunday, December 8, 2024, at 12:00 noon in Vatican City (7:00 PM Philippine time). Let us give thanks to God! Deo gratias!” it added.
The diocese likewise thanked Bancud for his “faithful and inspiring service”.
“His pastoral care, wisdom, and dedication to the Eucharistic mission have been a source of immense blessing, fostering spiritual growth and unity among the clergy, religious, and laity,” the Cabanatuan diocese said.
“As he begins a new chapter in his journey, the diocese prays that God rewards him abundantly with peace, health, and joy. His fatherly love and guidance will always be cherished,” it said.
Andaya was ordained priest on December 8, 1986. He was consecrated bishop on July 16, 2003. Andaya started serving as Vicar Apostolic of Tabuk in 2003. —Sundy Locus/AOL, GMA Integrated News
