JOB applicants this year chose work-life balance and company values as factors in signing up for employment, according to a survey by online job portal Jobstreet by SEEK.

The Employee Job Happiness Index 2024 revealed that prospective employees were prioritizing work schedules and company reputation and values in evaluating potential employers. Work culture, benefits and job security were also identified as critical factors affecting their decisions.

Among Filipino jobseekers, 38 percent cited social media and online news as the most common platforms used to research companies; 17 percent looked at company websites; and 14 percent relied on word-of-mouth. Jobstreet advised companies to enhance their visibility across these channels to attract potential employees. While catching the attention of prospective employees is essential, the survey also revealed the importance of retaining the companies’ job recruits. Thirty-nine percent of respondents said salary increases was the leading factor in improving employee morale; 13 percent, better working hours; another 13 percent, job promotion; and 12 percent, holiday or vacation leaves.

Employees said they would be happier in the next six months if they were to receive these benefits.

“Hirers may consider these benefits as drivers toward employee retention, as keeping morale within an organization helps preserve job satisfaction and, in turn, employee retention,” the survey said, adding that happy employees are more likely to recommend their employers to others.

Others on the list were Google, JP Morgan Chase & Co., Nestle, P&G, Amazon, Globe, SM Development Corp., Aboitiz, BDO, and Emapta.

Among government agencies, the top choices were the Asian Development Bank, followed by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas and the Department of Education.Other government and non-government organizations that made the list of preferred employers were the Armed Forces of the Philippines, United Nations, Department of Health, Department of Trade and Industry, and the US Embassy, among others.
