MANILA, Philippines — Jeniffer Maravilla further flexes her vocal muscles and broadens her musical horizons by releasing the single ‘Di Na Pwede with GMA Playlist.

Described as “a very emotional break-up song” of her team, the ditty is a contrast and welcome break from Alimuom, her debut inspirational song and “with soulful instrumentals that evoke an ethnic vibe,” and the theme songs/original soundtracks of the TV series, “Mga Lihim Ni Urduja” and “Asawa ng Asawa Ko” (with fellow Kapuso artist Crystal Paras) and the GMA film, “The Cheating Game.”

Jeniffer, who is also into acting, captures the emotions and the thoughts, from recollections to realizations, that come with the inevitable breakup and the needed moving on.

“Maraming salamat po kung feeling ninyo eh, kumbaga naitawid ko ng maayos yung mensahe ng kanta (many thanks if you feel that I’ve been able to put across the message of the song), but I think doon po siya nang gagaling (that is where it’s coming from),” said Jeniffer in a recent press conference, acknowledging the appreciation of those present over her interpretation of ‘Di Na Pwede. “It’s because meron na akong first-hand experience dun sa kanta (I’ve had a first-hand experience of what the song is about) and I must say na sobrang layo po talaga compared kung paano ko siya ginawa at first and then ngayon na meron na akong personal experience tungkol dun sa ibig sabihin po nung song (how I sang it the first time as compared to my recording was a far cry because I’ve had a personal experience of what the song means).”

The Sparkle GMA artist generously gave the context by recalling that “we recorded the song almost two years ago, taken pa po ako noon (and I was taken or in a relationship at that time). I love my GMA Playlist family because they’ve given me the chance to again record it kasi feeling po nila iba na yung emosyon na mabibigay ko this time around. I’ve already had a first-hand experience about (what) the song (is).”

During the event, Jeniffer also shared the song selection process regarding ‘Di Na Pwede.

“It’s one of the songs that we chose out of the ones GMA Playlist did pitch to us. When I listened to the song lyrics, I told composer Rina (Mercado) masakit talaga yung mga lines, yung words, yung mga lines na inin-corporate niya sa song, hugot talaga (that the lines and words she incorporated into the song were heartbreaking). They were really hugot. And I also inquired where she drew (the inspiration and the words for the song).”

The singer was in awe because the composer is only in her early 20s and learned that the composer used the experiences and stories of the latter’s friends in crafting the lyrics.

Since Jeniffer had also taken that path, she could attest to the truthfulness the song conveys.

“So, I think true enough kasi nung na-experience ko po yun, totoong totoo yung bawat salita na nandoon sa kanta na yun, totoong totoo yung emosyon na inilapat dun sa song na ginawa ni Rina (since I’ve experienced it, I can say that the words in the song and the emotion captured in it are true).”

As for the challenging part in doing the song, Jeniffer had this to say: “The challenge for us was hanapan siya ng ending (how to find the appropriate ending to it). Ilang beses ata kaming nag-usap ni Rina and nag-brainstorm kung paano siya tatapusin (I think Rina and I did talk and brainstorm about it many times) and we (finally) came up with the ending.”

This is true because the singer and the composer have heard a great number of tunes and concluding song sections. The creatives in them simply wanted to offer something new.

Speaking of her entertainment career, Jeniffer has also crossed over to acting, given her appearance in the GMA Prime series “Asawa Ng Asawa Ko,” starring Jasmine Curtis-Smith, Joem Bascon and Rayver Cruz. She took on the role of a female member of the armed group Kalasag named Sawa, also the lover of its leader Leon (Joem).

“It’s my first ever kontrabida role at hindi naman po ako magkakaila na nahirapan po talaga ako sa character (and I wouldn’t deny that it was tough playing the character). I did a lot of research before I (built and formed) Sawa, and (the role is) very memorable to me and I will never forget it kasi bihira na pong mabigyan ng pagkakataon na ma-direct ng isang Laurice Guillen (because it’s rare to get the chance to be directed by Laurice Guillen). I felt that I really (attended) a masterclass (on acting). So, sobrang unforgettable po sa akin nung show.”

For the meantime, please give Jeniffer’s song, ‘Di Na Pwede, available on all digital platforms, a listen.
