Barangay Ginebra commenced its campaign in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup with a win against NLEX, 109-100, on Wednesday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Manila.
Ginebra started to pull away in the third quarter as it outscored NLEX, 36-23, to claim a 78-66 lead at the end of the said frame.
Troy Rosario, who made his debut for Ginebra, made a layup with less than one minute left in the fourth quarter to give the Gin Kings a 107-93 lead before Xyrus Torres drilled a triple to cut down the deficit with 49 seconds left. However, freebies from Maverick Ahanmisi eventually sealed the deal for Ginebra.
Stephen Holt had 26 points, two rebounds, and two assists, while Brownlee had 24 points, 12 rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and a steal. Rosario, meanwhile had nine points and seven boards, along with three assists in his Ginebra debut.
NLEX import Mike Watkins had 27 points, 21 rebounds, two assists, and a block to lead the Road Warriors, while Bolick topped the locals in scoring with 18 points. NLEX slipped to 3-2 as Ginebra also snapped the Road Warriors’ three-game winning streak.
