A total of 26 lantern installations took part in this year’s University of the Philippines Lantern Parade.

According to Mark Salazar’s report on “24 Oras,” Wednesday, the event is an annual tradition held at the Diliman campus, and is also open to nearby communities who want to join.

“Nagbibigay ho siya ng pagkakataon, hindi lamang sa mga estudyante at kawani ng UP, kundi maging sa mga residente ng Barangay UP Campus at kalapit na barangay na makibahagi ho at i-feature ‘yung kanilang interpretasyon sa taunan nating tema na lantern parade,” vice chancellor for community affairs Jerwin Agpaoa said.

“Sa tingin ko ay nagdudulot din ho ito ng pagkamulat o awareness sa mga pressing social issues,” he said.

There is also a street party while the lanterns are showcased.

The most-awaited of them all is the lantern from the College of Fine Arts.

“Hiwalay pa ho doon ang pagsali ng College of Fine Arts na sila-sila mismo sa kolehiyo. Dahil hall of famers, ay sila-sila mismo mayroon hong kompetisyon,” Jerwin said.

There will be a party before the announcement of the winners by midnight.—Carby Basina/LDF, GMA Integrated News
