DOLE to fireworks firms: Comply with occupational safety, health standards

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) on Friday reminded establishments involved in manufacturing, distribution, and selling of pyrotechnics to strictly adhere to the occupational safety and health standards (OSH) to ensure workers’ safety amid the holiday season. 

Labor Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma, in an advisory, instructed all DOLE regional directors to coordinate with the Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine National Police, and local government units (LGUs) to monitor the establishments’ compliance to the OSH. 

“Pursuant to the mandate of the Department to ensure a safe and healthful workplace for all workers, all establishments engaged in the manufacture, distribution, and sale of pyrotechnics are hereby reminded to strictly comply with Occupational Safety and Health Standards under Republic Act No. 11058,1 Department Order No. 198, Series of 2018,2 Department Order No. 134, Series of 2014,3 and other related issuances,” said Laguesma.

“All Regional Directors are hereby directed to monitor establishments’ compliance with the aforementioned and other related issuances to prevent workplace accidents under Department Order No. 238, Series of 2023,” he added. 

Further, Laguesma ordered the regional directors to submit a list of the establishments under their monitoring until January 10, 2025.

Republic Act No. 11058 or the OSH Act mandates strict compliance of employers to workplace safety standards to protect employees’ from occupational hazards and ensure safe and healthy workplaces.—Sundy Locus/AOL, GMA Integrated News
