MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Immigration personnel will be on “full force” at airports and all ports of entry and exit across the country during the Christmas season, the agency said on Monday, December 23.

In a statement, the bureau said that it did not allow its personnel to go on leave from December 15 to January 15 to “maximize the manpower during the peak season.”

The leave ban also applies to personnel deployed at Ninoy Aquino International Airport, as well as other airports, including those in Clark, Mactan, Davao, and Kalibo, and at the Zamboanga International Seaport, according to Immigration Commissioner Joel Viado.

Viado also said he instructed terminal heads to ensure all counters are fully staffed and to encourage arriving travelers to use the e-gates to reduce processing time.

“We have also have in place mobile counters to help in processing should there be build-up in travelers,” he shared.

The bureau on December 15 reported that it is expecting around 110,000 travelers during the holiday season.

Viado also urged travelers departing for overseas destinations to arrive at least three hours before their scheduled flight to avoid congestion and ensure smoother travel.

“We urge passengers to check in early and proceed directly to immigration for clearance,” Viado said.

“This will help ensure a more relaxed travel experience and prevent unnecessary delays,” he added.
