The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday reminded the public to be vigilant against “akyat bahay” or burglars who might take advantage of their absence during their Christmas vacation.
“Isa sa mga madalas nating natatala na mga insidente kapag ganitong mga bakasyon ay mga akyat bahay at mga sumisira ng pintuan at bintana,” PNP spokesperson Police Brigadier General Jean Fajardo said during a press briefing.
(One of the incidents we often encounter during these vacations involve burglars who break doors and windows.
“Kaya panay po ang paalala natin sa ating mga kababayan lalong-lalo na yung mga magbabakasyon at mawawala ng ilang araw sa kanilang mga tahanan at pinagtratrabahuang establisyimento ay siguraduhing na secured at safe po ang iniwan nilang bahay at tindahan,” she added.
(That’s why we keep on reminding our countrymen, especially those who go on vacation and will be gone for a few days from their homes and workplaces, to make sure that their homes and businesses are secured and safe.)
Police officers will be deployed in barangays to make sure that houses and establishments are secured, according to Fajardo.
As of Monday, Fajardo said around 37,000 police officers have been deployed nationwide to secure the celebration of the holiday season.
Meanwhile, Fajardo reminded motorists to check the condition of their vehicles and make sure that they have enough sleep and are not intoxicated to avoid accidents on roads.
For those who will take public utility vehicles, Fajardo advised them to protect their belongings from pickpockets and robbers.
The PNP spokesperson also discouraged the public from posting real time updates on their whereabouts on social media to avoid giving information to criminals. —RF, GMA Integrated News
