SEN. Bong Go shared the Christmas spirit by meeting with 24 barangay captains from Pasig City on Friday, Dec. 20, in a holiday gathering at Max’s along E. Rodriguez Avenue.

During the event, he reaffirmed his commitment to empowering grassroots leaders and acknowledged their tireless service as frontliners in governance.

As the season of giving unfolds, Senator Go expressed his gratitude for the vital contributions of barangay officials, especially during emergencies and calamities.

He emphasized the importance of legislative measures to uplift their welfare and ensure they receive tangible support befitting their indispensable roles. Among his priority legislative proposals is Senate Bill (SB) 197, or the Magna Carta for Barangay Officials.

If enacted, the bill will provide barangay officials with significant benefits and privileges, recognize their sacrifices, and motivate them to serve their communities more effectively.

Senator Go also filed SB 427, the Barangay Health Workers Compensation Act, which seeks to guarantee fair compensation for barangay health workers who play a pivotal role in community health services if enacted.

“Barangay officials are the first people our countrymen turn to when they have problems. Their sacrifices are no joke, so it is only right that they are given the right support and benefits. Mere gratitude is not enough. There must be concrete action and support for them,” Go said in Filipino.

During the meeting, he also highlighted the Republic Acts (RA) 11462 and 11935, which he co-authored and co-sponsored.

These laws postponed previous Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections, giving barangay officials additional time to implement and complete their programs.

Go assured the barangay leaders that his office remains accessible for any support they may need, expressing his appreciation for their dedication.

“My office is always open for you. Don’t be shy about coming if you need anything. I will do everything I can to help you,” he said.

Adding a festive touch to the gathering, Senator Go and his Malasakit Team distributed Christmas tokens to barangay captains.

He also thanked Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto and Vice Mayor Dodot Jaworski for their collaborative efforts to ensure effective local governance.

“This Christmas, let us remember that the true spirit of the holiday season is love, compassion, and cooperation. I hope every family stays happy and safe this Christmas. As your Mr. Malasakit, I pray for a joyful and healthy New Year for everyone,” he said.

“I am your Senator Kuya Bong Go, and I will continue to serve you all because serving others is my commitment. I carry compassion for every Filipino because I believe serving people is serving God,” Go said.
