MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) has placed hospitals and other health facilities under Code White Alert to ensure safe celebration during the holiday season.
In an advisory, the DOH Calabarzon said the Code White Alert took effect starting yesterday and will be observed today, Christmas Day, on Dec. 30 and 31 and on Jan. 1, New Year’s Day.
“The alert signifies readiness for potential incidents and ensures swift response capabilities across the region,” DOH Assistant Secretary Ariel Valencia said.
The DOH Calabarzon said it is promoting the “Ligtas Christmas” campaign to remind the public to engage in safe Christmas practices and traditions amid increased holiday season activities.
The campaign aims to reduce health risks and encourage a safe and happy holiday season, according to Valencia.
The DOH advised the public to be mindful of their food choices and portions during the holidays to prevent health problems, like diabetes and high blood pressure.
People are also reminded of proper hygiene, including regular handwashing, meal preparation and leftover storage, to prevent food poisoning.
To prevent injuries from fireworks, the DOH’s “Iwas Paputok” drive reiterates its yearly advice to avoid using firecrackers and pyrotechnics and find alternative ways to welcome the New Year.
“Apart from using horns, we can improvise and use pots and pans to make noise during the New Year celebration,” Valencia said.
