THE International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has unveiled its 2026-2050 Strategic Plan, outlining objectives to eliminate aviation fatalities, achieve net-zero carbon emissions and enhance global connectivity.
Under the theme “Safe Skies, Sustainable Future,” the plan focuses on zero fatalities from aviation accidents, net-zero emissions by 2050 and accessible global air transport.
“This Strategic Plan reflects our shared vision for aviation’s future. It charts a course where aviation continues to drive global connectivity, economic growth, and cultural exchange through sustainable and inclusive development,” said ICAO Council President Salvatore Sciacchitano.
Passenger traffic is projected to reach 12.4 billion by 2050 from 4.6 billion in 2024. ICAO’s strategies include sustainable aviation fuels, improved operational efficiency and carbon offset mechanisms.
“This Strategic Plan is a commitment to ICAO’s highest aspirations and our practical determination to achieve them,” said ICAO Secretary General Juan Carlos Salazar.
The plan aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and will undergo reviews every six years to address evolving challenges, opportunities and best practices.
The Strategic Plan reinforces its mission to ensure safe, sustainable and inclusive aviation for the future.
