Operatives of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) arrested four of the bureau’s own employees for allegedly colluding with fixers in the issuance of NBI clearance certificates, the NBI said Wednesday.
According to the agency, the NBI-Cybercrime Division (CCD) and the NBI-Special Task Force (STF) arrested four employees under the Information and Communication Technology Division and seven fixers outside the NBI Clearance Center.
“Director Santiago emphasized that there is no place for corrupt practices in the NBI under his leadership and warned that he will be relentless in pursuing those individuals who will violate the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act Law,” it said in a statement.
The NBI said it received information that a certain employee is colluding with fixers over the issuance of clearance certificates. The employee was also alleged to have expedited the clearance application in exchange for P800 to P2,000.
Due to this, the CCD conducted covert inquiries and confirmed the information.
On Monday, operatives of the CCD and the STF conducted an entrapment operation, which resulted in the arrest of the four NBI employees and the seven fixers.
The NBI said the four employees violated the Revised Penal Code, the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act, the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees, and the Ease of Doing Business and Efficient Government Service Delivery Act of 2018, in relation to the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.
Meanwhile, it said the fixers violated the Ease of Doing Business and Efficient Government Service Delivery Act of 2018, in relation to the Cybercrime Prevention Act.
All of the arrested individuals were presented for inquest proceedings at the Department of Justice on Tuesday.—LDF, GMA Integrated News
